It was a nice day for a magic show, until the magician was found stabbed in the heart! What's a teenage witch to do? Jade Green is taking a gap year, selling potions at the farmers market, and saving for a trip to Europe. Unrelated Griping

Yes, the "Completed" carousel is unchanged, and the bots have taken over the new releases. But what annoys me the most is all the posts in the FB groups asking when bonuses are going to be posted. Seriously. It goes on for a week.

Author's Description

Welcome to Chance, a town founded on luck and filled with secrets. Sofie Rinaldi is just an ordinary young woman working at the local diner and dreaming of more than her small town life. That is, until she suddenly finds she can conjure up mystical spells. Too bad she hasn't a clue what she's doing. And when people start dying around her, she's left wondering if her spells are somehow responsible. Can Sophie discover the truth about the deaths in Chance... or has her luck finally run out?

Why I Chose it

In the first episode of this paranormal cozy, the main character is introduced, magic is brought in, and the first body drops. That's how you start a paranormal cozy.

Who Might Like This

Paranormal cozy fans will like this!

Unrelated Griping

I have no unrelated griping today because I chickened out and started with the "featured" stories. They tend to be higher quality. Looking at the "recently added" list or querying on random words requires looking at a lot more terrible beginnings before finding one worth recommending.

Author's Description

I'm the personal assistant for Mimi LaFleur, who played America's favorite amateur sleuth on TV. The septuagenarian party animal never met a man or cliche that she didn't take to like a duck to water. I wonder why my boss drags me to an ocean-front house in Manhattan Beach for a vacay -- until I discover that a Hollywood hunk is our new neighbor. After an all-night rager, the police suspect Mimi of murdering the star! To save my job, I must add beating a murder rap to my list of duties.

Why I Chose it

I like cozy mysteries and this is fun. One thing this author understands is the big draw of cozies is wanting to spend time in the world apart from the mystery. (When I read a cozy, the mystery is mostly there to give the characters something to do, and as long as that doesn't make them seem too stupid to live, I don't care all that much about the mystery.) These characters are people I'd love to spend some time with.

Cozy lovers should jump on this one.

Unrelated Griping

No terrible gripes, but these days I feel like I could give a class in how not to write the first episode of a serial. I think this must be how slush pile readers feel.
