Author's Description

Bailey is a young, aspiring actress that has never had a real acting job--besides a role in a high school play. But when she sees an ad for a production that takes place in 1954, she decides to take a chance. The only thing she knows is that it is fully immersive, and would require her to live in the fictional town for one full year. The rules are simple, stay in character and she gets a nice payout of more than one hundred thousand dollars. But would a black woman willingly live in the 50s?

Why I Chose it

This is an interesting concept in these days of reality tv. It's not clear to me from the first episode whether this is truly a story about people playacting, or whether the character ends up in a different time (though I sort of suspect the latter), but the writing is compelling and there are some great details. (I remember people smoking in restaurants...)

[26 episodes so far, with 4 updates in the last 30 days.]

Who Might Like This

Would you willingly live in the 1950s?

Unrelated Griping

I searched random words for a while today and finally ended up looking at what Kindle Vella is promoting. From what I'm seeing in my random searches, about 80% of the stories have less than four episodes and have been abandoned for at least two months. They're going to have to figure out some way to clean that up if they plan to make this platform work.

On the other hand, last month my story (Dragon Freehold) earned me a bonus big enough to buy two pizzas and tip the delivery person nicely, and as far as I can tell, only two people are reading it. I'd like for Amazon to improve things, but if they're not going to do that, then I'm fine with them continuing to give me random amounts of money.
