Author's Description

Sidekick Wanted. No experience necessary. Orphans or emancipated adults preferred. This sounds like the perfect side hustle for a financially-challenged bicycle courier like me. Besides, who doesn't want to be a hero?

Why I Chose it

Great voice, right from the start.

Who Might Like This

If you were a bike courier living in a trailer park, wouldn't you want to become a superhero too?

Unrelated Griping

This isn't a Vella thing, just a poorly written romance (and occasionally other genres as well) problem: if I get halfway through the first page and think "Wow, for a supposedly independent adult, this person sure does seem to be incapable of adulting", I will stop reading right there. Because the main character in a book I enjoy should not induce waves of secondhand embarrassment.

I know the author is trying to make it obvious the main character is thrown off balance by their potential love interest, but it's too much. It just makes both characters seem like idiots.
