The writing on this one is pretty solid and the characters are well-defined. This one falls into the category of "stories I'm pretty sure are going to live up to what they promise", which is a good thing to be.

Unrelated Griping
I did my usual scan of the the newly arrived stories (or at least, the stories that Vella shows as new, which might not be the same thing), and four of them were published under different names but had the same exact 1 sentence = 1 paragraph structure. And this wasn't the copy/paste formatting glitch. It's as if someone was convinced that each sentence had to be a separate paragraph. I'm pretty sure all four were written by the same person. If not, there's weird advice floating around the internet somewhere...
